Stripe’s on-reader tipping feature lets you show preset or custom tip options directly on supported card readers. This guide explains how to enable and configure tipping in your Stripe setup to ensure a smooth and intuitive payment flow.
- First, go to Payments, then the Terminal option, and click on the Manage Locations button under the Locations tab.
- Next, under All Locations, click on the overflow menu (...) to show the settings, and click on Edit Configuration.
- That opens a Default Configuration window. Find the Tipping section, click on the Edit button.
- Choose the Tipping mode. Most clients would choose Percentage. Then set the Currency, enter the desired tipping option, and click Save. As an example, the screenshot below is set to 15%, 18% and 20%.
Important Note: Aside from this percentages option, it will also show a "Custom Tip" and "No Tip" option on the card reader by default. - Then, click Review to view your changes, and then click Confirm.
Finally, click Apply changes.
In addition, you can also customize your card reader's splash screen on the Default Configuration page. Just click on the Edit option on the Splash screen section. Select the reader type to indicate which reader type to apply the splash screen to.
Upload an image to display to your readers. JPG and PNG images must be less than 2MB. GIF images must be less than 4 MB. Each reader has a specific display resolution, and you must crop your JPG or PNG image to fit those dimensions. GIF images scale automatically. Click Done and then Apply Changes to finalize.
Unfortunately, you can’t upload or apply a single splash screen across every reader type. You will need to do the process again if you have another reader type. After uploading, the splash screen updates on the reader within 10 minutes.
