A Quick Guide to Stripe Timezones and Reporting

Changing your timezone makes your Dashboard easier to read, but it doesn't change the "source of truth" for your data. While your screen shows your local time, your exports and transfers stay on UTC. We’ll show you how to adjust your view and handle these differences when you’re reviewing your financial reports.

Default Time Zone Settings

When you first open your Stripe account, your time zone is automatically set based on where your business is registered. While this makes your Dashboard easy to read, it’s important to remember that this "display" time is separate from your "reporting" time. All your behind-the-scenes data—like API responses, subscription cycles, and bank transfers—stay strictly on UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) to ensure everything remains synchronized globally.

How to Check and Update Your Default Setting

If you feel your Dashboard is showing the wrong time for your transactions, follow these steps to verify your default settings:

  1. Head to Settings: Click on the Settings (gear icon) in the top-right corner of your Stripe Dashboard.
  2. Under the "Business Settings" column, click on ''Time zone'' under the account details column. Verify the Time Zone: Here, you will see the Time Zone dropdown.
  3. Save Your Changes: If you make a change, Stripe usually auto-saves, but keep an eye out for a confirmation message at the top of the screen.

Time Zone Customization: Changes to Reports.

  1. Go to the Reporting module and select reports.
  2. Select which report you would like to run.
  3. If you generated reports prior to the addition of time zone selection, the only time zone available was UTC. You can return to using UTC on financial reports for this session by selecting UTC from the date range time zone selector shown below. You will need to reselect UTC if you navigate away from the financial reports page and later return.

You can learn more about timezone settings by going directly to Stripe's documentation about timezones.
