If your business no longer needs to process payments through Stripe, you can permanently close your Stripe account directly from the Stripe Dashboard. Closing your account disables all payment processing, prevents future transactions, and permanently deactivates the account.
Note: Only the Stripe account owner or a user with the appropriate administrative permissions can close a Stripe account.
Steps to close your account:
- Log into your Stripe Dashboard
- Go to Settings > Business > Account details
-
Scroll to the bottom and click Close account
Before you close it, make sure to:
- Pay out any existing balance to your bank
- Export any data you need (transaction history, payouts, etc.) as CSV
- Resolve any pending refunds or disputes
A few important notes:
- If your account has a negative balance, you won't be able to close it until that's resolved
- Closing the account does not release you from liability tied to your account, including negative balances or disputes
- Once closed, the account cannot be reopened. So be sure to only do it after you're ready. We can open a new account as a worst case.
- After closing, you won't be able to process refunds, issue payments, or respond to disputes — so it's best to wrap up any open items first.''
