To get started sending SMS marketing campaigns, a phone number is required. We purchase and register the phone number for you using our SMS provider, Twilio. The registration and approvals can sometimes take a couple days or a couple weeks. To complete the registration, they require your business's EIN number. We will get this from you at the start of the process.
Here are a few important details about using SMS:
-
Campaign Type: Unlike email—where you can send a one-time blast to your entire contact list—SMS is designed exclusively for automated campaigns (such as birthday texts or automated workflows). It does not support bulk SMS blasts to the whole customer list at once.
- One of the main reasons we don't support bulk sending for now is we use a toll-free phone number which has some limitations on how fast messages can be sent and how many per day. To stay within these limits, we don't support bulk sending. Some companies use 'short codes' which are very costly to setup, and can be up to $1k per month.
- Pricing: SMS is an add-on feature that costs $0.04 per SMS.
How to create campaigns with SMS:
-
Under the Marketing section, click on Campaigns. When creating a new campaign, click on the upper-left button that says Add Campaign. Enter the campaign name and click Add.
-
General Setup
- Campaign Format: Choose SMS.
- Data Source: Select the data source you want to use. Make sure to use the same data source as your template, or else it will not appear under the selection on this new campaign. To learn more, check our article on Introduction to Data Sources.
-
Campaign Channel: Choose the channel/type for your campaign. Subscribers can choose exactly what they want to hear about by opting in or out of individual topics rather than unsubscribing from all your communications entirely. (Important note: Under the Phone Number field, do not click Buy Phone Number as mentioned above; we need you to contact us and provide your business's EIN so we can register it and generate your dedicated phone number for SMS approval.)
-
Rules & Definition
- Campaign Type: By default, SMS is set on a repeating schedule (we only have daily repeating schedules).
- Discount Code: Configure discount codes for this campaign by clicking on Configure Discount Code to learn more about configuring your Growth Marketing Discount Code. You can view our article on Discount Code Per-Recipient
-
Schedule: Set a schedule for your campaign. For automated campaigns set to a repeating schedule under Campaign Type, you can configure the time of day.
-
Filter: You can use filters to target specific age groups and segment your target contacts. Filters will vary depending on the data source used by your templates and campaign.
-
Publishing & Editing
Once you’re done filling in all the needed details, go back to the upper left corner of the campaign and click on Publish. To edit any published campaigns, you need to unpublish them first to make changes to filters, SMS body, dynamic send date, or schedule.
